Michael McKean was injured in a freak accident in New York — his leg was broken after he was struck by a taxi that jumped the curb onto the sidewalk.
“We always tell each other to break a leg in this business. I never thought it would happen to me this way!” McKean told producers of “Gore Vidal’s The Best Man.” He has been playing Dick Jensen in the Broadway revival since the show opened in April.
McKean was replaced by James Lecesne, who won an Oscar for directing the short film “Trevor,” in 1994. The film, which is centers on a young teenager dealing with being gay, was the inspiration for the non-profit Trevor Project, a nationwide organization that provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention to at-risk gay teens.
